I grew up in Massachusetts and moved to San Diego in 2004. Ever since I can remember I wanted to be an art teacher. I recieved my Bachelor's in Fine Arts and Master's Degree in Art Education from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts Unversity Collaborative Program. I am a huge Red Sox fan and enjoy going to the beach, painting, cooking, and hanging with friends, family, and my chihuahua, Rudy.

Teaching Philosophy

Our lives and experiences shape our vision and art enhances it. You may see something everyday, an apple for example, but when you sketch, sculpt, or paint that apple, suddenly you see it in a whole new way. It becomes more than just a piece of fruit, it becomes a color, a shape, and a shadow. Art frames a moment in our lives and we can revisit that moment every time we view our work.

Art is much more than colors and design, it is about examining and understanding our environment. I want my students to try everything, paint, graphic design, collage, and more. My lessons help students reflect on thier own lives and communities. The more we create and observe art, the more we will truly see the world around us.

Everyone has his or her own individual style and vision. Art invites us into the artist's world when we view their work. It can be used to learn about other countries and people. Art introduces students to new cultures and traditions. Art is used to express ideas, individuality, and gain a unique respect for each other's visions. We can travel around the world through the eyes of artists, breaking language barriers, and creating a new vision all our own.

Society tends to make us think that 'talent' is what determines whether we can make art. I believe that everyone is capable of making art, because everyone is capable of expressing his or her own feelings and ideas. Art becomes more meaningful and easier to understand when you create it yourself. When my students leave my classroom, they will be able to find art in everything. Whether it is a painting, sculpture, advertisement, movies----art is everywhere. I want my students to see common things become exciting and their world filled with an explosions of colors. I want them to gain a new vision that not only changes the way they see the world, but also changes the way they experience it.
