Studio Art, Ms. Barrett , 6th Grade, 2008

Projects and Due Dates

Class Overview
In my art class students will be introduced to a variety of materials, artists, and concepts. They will create meaningful artwork that expresses their ideas and feelings. Students will create work from observation, imagination, and get ideas from the world around them.

Students will be introduced to several cultural exemplars, learn by manipulating materials, and experiment with new art making techniques. They will be encouraged to create works of art that reflect their own style and deal with ideas that possess personal meaning.

Self Assessment and group critiques are methods used in this curriculum to measure student’s understanding. This will give students the opportunity to exercise their skills in organizing, analyzing, and evaluating their own work as well as the work of their peers. Meaningful art making and critiques will provide students with the ability to demonstrate their own knowledge and skills and will allow them to become responsible for their own art education.
